Bcs rangkings (Alabama, Florida, Louisiana State and South Carolina) in the top 10

Tiger Stadium shook behind a capacity crowd, and L.S.U.’s celebrated defense played like an N.F.L. unit.

L.S.U. proved Saturday night, the season is a long one.

“We executed a lot better,” quarterback Zach Mettenberger said Saturday. “From here on out, we just got to show up with the same mentality and attitude.”

Here are a couple other little tidbits from the opening BCS standings:

• An #SEC team has now been ranked No. 1 in 11 straight #BCS rankings.

• Alabama becomes the fourth defending champion to start the following year No. 1

• No. 6 LSU is the highest ranked one-loss team since Oklahoma in 2008. Sooners went on to play for the title.

• No Big Ten teams in the opening BCS standings

Big Ten Football Gets Big Dis from First 2012 BCS Rankings

The first official BCS standings of 2012 came out Sunday night, with Alabama and Florida now officially holding the national title contention inside track.

Alabama has never before been first in the initial standings. Seven times since the Bowl Championship Series was implemented in 1998, the team that was first in the initial standings went on to play in the BCS title game.
Seven times the team that started second played for the BCS title. And only twice has neither of the teams that were in the top two spots in the first standings reached the title game.
